IRCK successfully held the 13th International Training Course

The 13th International Training Course organized by the International Research Center on Karst (IRCK) and funded by the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) was completed from November 15-26, 2021. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, this is the second virtual training course held by IRCK. It serves as a platform of mutual learning and exchanges for karst scientists, natural resources and environmental researchers, and university students from around the world.

This year's course on "Karst and Sustainable Development" has attracted 41 trainees from 18 countries to attend. To allow for attendance from various parts of the world, the training course was run in two phases, with the first mainly for trainees from Europe, Africa and Asia, and the second for trainees from America and Asia. 11 experts from France, Italy, Slovenia, the United States, Serbia and prestigious Chinese universities and research institutes were invited as lecturers and evaluators. The lectures covered four directions: karst carbon cycle and climate change, karst water resources and water security, karst ecological restoration and eco-industry, and karst landscape resources and sustainability. The effective organization of the training course ensures efficient communication between trainees and lecturers. Chinese college students also participated in the training.

On November 26, all the trainees attended individual or group defense, introducing the karst generalities and karst resource utilization of their countries. 8 outstanding students/groups from Congo, Pakistan, Tunisia, Mexico, Iran, Philippines and Brazil were selected and awarded $100-250 each by IUGS.
